Gold & Platinum Miners 🛜 Price Action Model Reflects At/Approaching A Buy Range

Research: November 2026 > https://www.unum.capital/post/rnov2026
Date/Time: Sunday, 01 November 2026.
For our clients trading or holding JSE Gold and Platinum Mining Shares.
At Friday's close, I took the price action model readings of several gold and platinum shares.
Without going into detail, the bottom line is that the probabilities favor buy/long positions.
This is not to say that the shares reached their exact lows, but rather that the bulk of the aggressive selling pressure might be nearing it's end in the short term.
To be clear, we could see LOWER LEVELS before a tactical rebound.
As noted, all reading are as of Friday's close.

MULTI-INSTRUMENT TACTICAL TEARDOWN: PRECIOUS METALS
The reward-to-risk profile across the South African precious metals mining complex is highly asymmetric but deeply conflicted by massive downside velocity. The overarching theme is extreme near-term markdown colliding with emerging technical value. For Buy/Long positions, the reward-to-risk is becoming attractive 🟩 for small tactical allocations across most of the complex (HAR, VAL, SSW, ANG), as severe structural selloffs have pushed 7-day trends into "High Bearish Momentum / Approaching Oversold" territory. However, medium-term trends uniformly dictate "Aggressive Selling," requiring strict discipline to wait for lower time frames to stabilize. Conversely, for Short/Sell positions, the reward-to-risk is Poor 🟥 across the board; the sector is actively approaching oversold extremes, leaving late-stage shorts heavily exposed to reflexive counter-trend squeezes.
TACTICAL BREAKDOWN BY INSTRUMENT
INSTRUMENT: ANG (AngloGold Ashanti PLC)
STRUCTURAL RATING: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
TACTICAL POSTURE: At/approaching buy/add 🟩
RATIONALE: The 7-day trend reflects "High Bearish Momentum / Approaching Oversold," and the short-term model confirms "The reward-to-risk is becoming attractive for a small buy/long position". While the 14-day trend is "Very Bearish," the long-term structure is "Looking For Support At Prior Swing Lows To Caputure Minor Rebounds" following a steady upward trend. Capital must "Wait For Lower Time Frames To Stabilize" before executing the tactical long.
INSTRUMENT: HAR (Harmony Gold), VAL (Valterra Platinum), & SSW (Sibanye Stillwater)
STRUCTURAL RATING: ⭐⭐☆☆☆
TACTICAL POSTURE: At/approaching buy/add 🟩
RATIONALE: These three instruments share an identical technical profile. Despite a "Very Bearish" 14-day trend and medium-term "Aggressive Selling," the 7-day trend is "Approaching Oversold". The short-term risk-reward is "becoming attractive for a small buy/long position". Because the long-term model notes "There is a Probability of a Small Rebound," capital should prepare for tactical long entries but strictly "Wait For Lower Time Frames To Stabilize".
INSTRUMENT: IMP (Impala Platinum)
STRUCTURAL RATING: ⭐☆☆☆☆
TACTICAL POSTURE: Buy on deeper pullback 🔵 / At/approaching buy/add 🟩
RATIONALE: IMP is experiencing "Very Aggressive Selling" in the short term. While it aligns with the sector's "High Bearish Momentum / Approaching Oversold" 7-day trend, the specific tactical mandate is to "Wait Until Downward Momentum Starts To Slow Before Buying In-Alternatively Phase In Buying". This requires a more patient, phased accumulation strategy to capture the long-term "Probability of a Small Rebound" against the overarching "Selling Pressure".
INSTRUMENT: NPH (Northam Platinum)
STRUCTURAL RATING: ⭐☆☆☆☆
TACTICAL POSTURE: Neutral ⬜
RATIONALE: NPH is the weakest structural component in the complex. It is completely engulfed in a "Very Weak" regime across short, medium, and long-term horizons, and the 7-day trend is merely "Weak" rather than oversold. The uniform technical command across all time frames is to "Wait Until It Stabilizes On The Lower Time Frame". Capital must remain completely sidelined.
SECTOR SCENARIO MATRIX (BASE, BEAR & BULL CASE)
Base Case (60% Probability):
Volatile Bottoming & Coordinated Rebound: The "Aggressive Selling" systematically decelerates across the precious metals complex as institutional accumulation absorbs supply at oversold extremes. Lower time frames carve out structural floors, validating the "Probability of a Small Rebound" and the hunt for "Minor Rebounds" at prior swing lows. Small tactical long entries successfully capture a counter-trend bounce before the persistently weak 14-day trends reassert themselves.
Bear Case (25% Probability):
Unchecked Sector Capitulation: Near-term downward momentum refuses to slow, driven by relentless medium-term selling pressure. The assets completely fail to stabilize on the lower time frames, invalidating the attractive risk-reward setups. This severely punishes any premature long allocations as the "Very Bearish" 14-day trends force the complex into an unchecked markdown phase, dragging even the lagging NPH deeper into its "Very Weak" structure.
Bull Case (15% Probability):
V-Shaped Exhaustion Squeeze: The aggressive selling hits a definitive, synchronized exhaustion point just as the assets cross deeply into oversold territory. This triggers an immediate, sector-wide short-covering squeeze, rewarding disciplined early buyers as price action swiftly executes the anticipated rebounds and forcefully overpowers the "Very Bearish" trajectories, initiating a broader structural reversal across the gold and platinum miners.
SECTOR RISK ASSESSMENTS
What Can Go Right From Current Levels (Risk For Short Sellers):
Severe Momentum Exhaustion Risk: Existing shorts are operating under a tape where the immediate risk-reward is actively "becoming attractive for a small buy/long position" across multiple heavyweights. Any sudden drying up of sell orders will trigger an immediate institutional squeeze, aligning with the noted probability of a rebound, violently turning unrealized short profits into forced buy-backs. Fading an asset class that is overwhelmingly "Approaching Oversold" guarantees immense upside variance.
What Can Go Wrong From Current Levels (Risk For Buys/Longs):
Premature Over-Allocation: Entering full-sized long allocations immediately fights massive downward velocity. The models explicitly warn to "Wait For Lower Time Frames To Stabilize" and to deploy only a "small buy/long position" or to "Phase In Buying". New buyers who fail to adhere to disciplined position sizing risk absorbing instant, outsized negative drift during the final capitulation stages of this aggressive markdown.
