Executive Summary

Late-October Macro Overlay

The period from late August through late October reveals a dramatic and structural market rotation. The resource-heavy sectors (Gold and Platinum Miners) that dominated late summer remain largely impaired, though Diversified Miners are showing sudden signs of long-term structural healing. In their place, a robust "SA Inc." and consumer/financial rotation continues to dominate. Banks, Consumer Staples, Hospitals, and Telecoms have staged massive structural advances, locking into Strong or High Bullish territory across multiple timeframes. Most notably in the final week of October, Hospitals saw an explosive upgrade across all timeframes, while Luxury Goods suffered a violent downside reversal.

  • Dominant Leaders (Broad Base): Consumer Staples, Hospitals, Banks, Chemicals, Coal Miners, Telecoms (Displaying severe strength and extended overbought conditions)

  • Sudden Reversals: Luxury Goods (Rapid collapse from short-term strength to severe short-term weakness)

  • Diverging Miners: Diversified Miners (Healing long-term structure) vs. Gold/Platinum (Remaining in weak/bearish trends)

  • Persistent Laggards: Technology, Paper & Pulp

Detailed 14-Sector Retrospective

Technology sits at a Long Term High Bearish/Approaching Oversold, Medium Term Weak, and Short Term Weak posture. The sector remains deeply structurally impaired. Despite brief, fleeting pops earlier in the month, sellers remain entirely in control of the trend across all timeframes.

Diversified Miners present a Long Term Strong, Medium Term Neutral, and Short Term Neutral posture. The narrative is shifting once again. After plummeting into Oversold territory just days prior, the sector has seen a sudden stabilization in the shorter timeframes and a definitive upgrade to Strong in the Long-Term, suggesting a potential long-term structural bottom may be forming.

Banks are showing a Long Term Strong, Medium Term Strong, and Short Term Overbought posture. The spectacular turnaround continues. From severe short-term exhaustion in August, Banks have rebuilt their structural profile, culminating in a dominant Strong/Strong/Overbought posture, though short-term momentum is extremely stretched.

Insurers currently sit at a Long Term Neutral, Medium Term Strong, and Short Term Strong posture. Insurers have cooled slightly from their overbought extremes of last week, settling into a robust and sustainable Strong posture on the shorter timeframes while maintaining Medium-Term leadership.

Gold Miners remain at a Long Term Neutral, Medium Term Weak, and Short Term Weak posture. The former undisputed market leader of August remains broken. While the Short-Term momentum has staged a very minor bounce out of High Bearish territory, the Medium-Term trend remains Weak, indicating continued institutional distribution on rallies.

Platinum Miners exhibit a Long Term Neutral, Medium Term Weak, and Short Term High Bearish/Approaching Oversold posture. Unlike Gold, Platinum has failed to bounce at all. The sector is still facing sustained selling pressure and remains pinned in extreme short-term bearishness.

Consumer Staples hold a Long Term Strong, Medium Term High Bullish/Approaching Overbought, and Short Term High Bullish/Approaching Overbought posture. This is a relentless bid. The sector has successfully upgraded its Long-Term trend to Strong, making it one of the most fundamentally supported and actively bought sectors in the current market.

Consumer Discretionary reflects a Long Term Weak, Medium Term Neutral, and Short Term Strong posture. The powerful counter-trend recovery rally has lost a bit of its medium-term steam, downgrading to Neutral. However, short-term buyers remain active, keeping the immediate posture Strong despite the longer-term bearish context.

Hospitals display a Long Term Strong, Medium Term High Bullish/Approaching Overbought, and Short Term High Bullish/Approaching Overbought posture. This is the breakout star of late October. The sector has seen explosive, sequential upgrades across every single timeframe, rocketing from Neutral to absolute market leadership in a matter of days.

Coal Miners have settled at a Long Term Strong, Medium Term Strong, and Short Term Strong posture. Having cooled just slightly from High Bullish extremes, Coal remains a dominant structural leader. The long, medium, and short-term trends are perfectly aligned in Strong territory.

Telecoms maintain a Long Term Strong, Medium Term Strong, and Short Term High Bullish/Approaching Overbought posture. The sector continues to ride a massive recovery wave. It remains securely positioned as a market leader with extreme short-term buying interest pushing it into High Bullish territory.

Paper & Pulp sits at a Long Term Weak, Medium Term Neutral, and Short Term Neutral posture. The sector remains a non-participant in the broader market rotation. It continues to languish with long-term structural damage and entirely Neutral momentum across the shorter timeframes.

Chemicals carry a Long Term High Bullish/Approaching Overbought, Medium Term High Bullish/Approaching Overbought, and Short Term Strong posture. While the immediate short-term momentum has cooled slightly to Strong, the medium and long-term timeframes remain stretched at extreme High Bullish levels, indicating massive accumulated strength.

Luxury Goods show a Long Term Neutral, Medium Term Weak, and Short Term High Bearish/Approaching Oversold posture. The sector has suffered a violent whiplash. After showing promising short-term strength just days ago, it has completely collapsed, with Medium-Term momentum failing and Short-Term momentum plunging into extreme bearishness.
