- Aspen Pharmacare: Long Term Support At Risk - Tuesday, 10 September 2024
Pre-Market Ticker: APN The R240-250 range was rejected once again, in a similar manner to that seen in September 2021. This level was previously support (which was followed by a multi-year breakdown) and has since become a resistance level. The weekly candle structure remains poor which means that there is a risk of the multi-year incline being breached. For short to medium term traders, the R160 level is a significant provisional re-accumulation level of interest. APN Monthly Chart Previous Post (05 September) Pre-Market Ticker: APN Within the span of 19 months, the share has provided clients of Unum Capital with two opportunities to profit. These opportunities came on both the long (buy) and short (sell) side, benefiting from a rising and falling share price. The short leg provided short term traders with 3x opportunities to sell above 23500c. Although the share briefly test the stop-loss level (a spike), the share pullback was in line with the view. The updated chart, with the time-stamped ideas, is shown below. Lester Davids Analyst: Unum Capital

- Foretelling Friday: JSE Top 40
The JSE Top 40 Index has recently pulled back after being in overbought conditions a couple of sessions ago, providing a potential entry opportunity at the key support level of 72,200. This level is significant as it coincides with short-term oversold conditions, making it a zone to monitor closely. Traders should watch the 15-minute and 1-hour charts for signs of changing market sentiment and buyer activity. Breaking below the 21-day EMA is typically a bearish signal, indicating short-term oversold conditions. However, this could also present a potential recovery at key support levels, particularly around 72,200. With US inflation data on the horizon, there may be renewed buying interest that could drive a rebound. Keep an eye on early signs of a reversal, as this data may spark positive momentum, potentially lifting the Top 40 toward a stronger finish by the end of the week. Lester Davids, Analyst We would love to hear your thoughts on the above. Follow us on our social media platforms and take part in the poll. 1. The top 40 will not break through its 21-day EMA and will finish lower. 2. It will remain rangebound amid the US inflation and the strengthening rand. 3. The top 40 will have a slight rebound and will close higher on Friday. Stay tuned and ready to act as opportunities arise. Contact us at tradingdesk@unum.co.za for any further developments.

- Earnings Trades (TRU, SPP, SHP) - Monday, 09 September 2024
For more on how to trade around risk events, contact the Unum Capital Trading Desk today. Earnings releases come with both big rewards, but also elevated levels of risk. The better informed you are, the greater your chances of success. For example, having access to a simple data point such as consensus expectations goes a long way in knowing how to position beforehand or react post-earnings. I however, do not have access to any of these data points, hence, recommending trade ideas close to or around earnings releases can lead to a binary outcome. Since I lack the key tools and information, I would prefer to react to opportunities post-earnings as the potential volatility also offers trades for the 'quick-fingered' trader. Below, I take a look at key levels on Truworths (TRU) in the event of an increase in volatility: 1. The share is above a rising 21-week EMA, which is a well-known support range on a pullback however, we do know that this level can be breached when corporate announcements are communicated to the market. The swing low is at 8640c-8650c, therefore this would be a first level of interest to potential re-accumulate. 2. The previous breakout level is at 8373c, and this is just above the 200-day SMA, which would also potentially be a range to re-accumulate. 3. At the recent high, TRU was featured in my commentary/table as well as highlighted via the Tactical Trading Guide where it cautioned traders not to chase, but instead wait for a pullback or look for an opportunity to short/sell. If TRU reports before the market opens, then a strategy one could also follow would be to monitor the price action during the first 30 minutes to the first hour of trading. The share could trade above the prior session low, however, any break below the prior week lows could be indicative of emerging weakness for the upcoming session. Traders could then look to possibly short/sell on a break of the weekly lows. Recently, discussed both Spar and Shoprite as short/sell opportunities. SPP SHP - The share traded above 314 and subsequently fell sharply to a low of R285.41 Lester Davids Analyst: Unum Capital
