  • JSE Top 40 Index: Unwinding From Overbought - Monday, 09 September 2024

Pre-Market JSE Top 40 Index. The Top 40 is acting in line with my view on 22 August 2024, where I highlighted the index entering an overbought range. On the day, the index traded higher but closed much weaker, suggesting at the time that seller had started to take control following a strong run, with aggressive buying pressure. Over the subsequent 12 trading sessions, the index has unwound by 3300 points and in the process, breaching the 8, 21 and 50-day exponential moving averages. The candle structure reflects strong selling pressure which means that the next key moving averages could be vulnerable to being breached. Which levels should traders monitor going forward? The 21-week EMA is close to the swing lows and should the price reach this level, it could coincide with short term oversold conditions. Failing this, the short term support at 72200 is a 'next support zone'. For bullish reversal opportunities traders should look for evidence of buying on the 15, 30-min and 1H charts to suggest that buyers have started to step up again. • Richemont: Weekly Chart - Monday, 09 September 2024

Pre-Market Ticker: CFR Weekly Chart - bearish igniting bar (continuation) + breakdown of multi-year incline support. Pre-Market Ticker: CFR My model's reading at the recent short term peak looked for a pullback over the short term (1 to 10 days). We have since seen 7 consecutive red candles, in line with the model. The 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level and the 200-day Simple Moving Average (SMA) could act as an ultra short term support zone. This is at approximately R2740 (subject to change as the price action develops). Previous Post (22 August) - Richemont is overbought. Here's what the data says. • REAL-TIME: 15h30 ABOUT THE TACTICAL TRADING GUIDE: Technology + Proprietary Insights has helped to develop automated tools and strategies that   are used to identify potential trading opportunities as well as highlight potentially significant technical developments across various time frames. • POSITIONING: High Beta vs Low Volatility - Monday, 09 September 2024

High Beta shares trading at multi-month lows relative to Low Volatility shares. This reflects defensive positioning by market participants. Note: The trend that has been broken extends back to the March 2020 lows. Previous Post: Tuesday, 30 July The chart highlights the S&P 500 High Beta ETF (SPHB) relative to the S&P 500 Low Volatility ETF (SPLV). Zooming out, my analysis highlights the failure of high beta shares to hold above the prior swing highs, while momentum (as per the 14-week RSI) is nearing a breach of the upward trend. Bottom Line: Investors appear to be positioning themselves within low volatility shares/sectors while rotating out of shares/sector with a higher beta. Lester Davids Analyst: Unum Capital

  • Brent Crude Oil: Lower By 17% - Friday, 06 September 2024

[U.S Trading Session] 19h03 (South African Time) Update: At $85, clients were alerted with a note to reduce into strength. From these levels, we have since seen the commodity lower by 17%. It has also broken down from it's weekly chart structure which looked for a break of the multi-month incline. Currently, it trades in a short term oversold range, which means that ultra short term rebounds are possible, however, the higher time frame structure remains vulnerable to further weakness. Note: 25 June Note: 07 August REAL-TIME: 21h39 / U.S. TRADING SESSION The technical vulnerability is recognized in this flash view of the commodity's weekly chart. Here, a 'topping structure' similar to that seen in the period December 2018 to January 2020. Lester Davids Analyst: Unum Capital
